Kids Rock Out in Art Lesson

Working with some year 4 children (aged 8-9) we wanted to get them to make large scale drawings of two characters who seem to feature in their work at the moment, Beowalf and Thor. The plan was to get reference pictures, cut each into 6 parts, and get the children to copy the 1/6 fragment and run with it. By giving them a fragment to do rather than the full figure, they would hopefully be looser and more free in their interpretation.

To help with this, the class teacher put on some music. Contemporary to them, which they liked. Bopping a bit... I wanted to jump out of the window however, so I put on Led Zeppellin 'Whole Lotta Love'... I saw one particular girls face light up and started mashing away at her paper with some chalks... long hair almost headbanging.

Utterly wonderful.
